What is the Ohio RISE Survey?
The Ohio RISE Survey (https://bit.ly/BLKWOMENRISE) is a web-based survey tool designed by Black women business owners for Black women business owners to gather data from 1000 Black women that measures the extent of economic injury sustained by their business due to COVID-19 and identify what they think they need to stabilize their companies.
Our goal is to survey 1000 Black businesswomen and entrepreneurs. The results of the survey and stories from subsequent focus groups will be shared with public policy makers, funders, philanthropists and other allies to elevate black women business owners and illuminate identified needs and challenges as well as propose solutions. The results will also be shared with Black women business owners and organizations across Ohio.
Who created the Ohio RISE Survey?
The Alliance of Black Businesswomen and Entrepreneurs Ohio (ABBE OH) is a group of committed Black businesswomen and entrepreneurs from throughout Ohio who recognized that COVID-19 is a serious, and maybe fatal, threat to the very existence of Black women owned businesses in Ohio, which according to a study from City Lab, is the fifth lowest state in the nation where Black women thrive (https://www.citylab.com/equity/2020/01/best-cities-black-women/604384/).
Our anchor partners are: Get The Bag, LLC(Cleveland); The Women’s Center for Economic Opportunity (501c3, Columbus); Cleveland Women Work (501c3,Cleveland); Purpose-Based Sports Management (Cincinnati); Aventi Enterprises (Columbus); Speakerazzi(Columbus); Preston Brown Foundation (Cincinnati) Women’s Business Enterprise Center-Ohio River Valley at the Cincinnati Urban League; ACR Capital (Cleveland) and Women for Economic and Leadership Development(WELD OH; Columbus & Cleveland).
While our primary focus is on African American women economically injured by historical racism in America (descendants of enslaved Africans born in America), All Black women are included: African American women, African women immigrants and women of the African diaspora, Afro-Latinas, Afro-Cuban women and additional beloved queens.
